The YMCA of Northwest North Carolina serves Alexander, Davie, Forsyth, Iredell, Stokes, Yadkin & Wilkes Counties. We have a passion for serving people of all ages, races and religions. We also offer financial assistance to those who otherwise cannot afford programs, services or membership fees at any of our locations.

» Jerry Long Family YMCA Recognized by Local Daughters of the American Revolution Group for Patriotism

On December 2, 2014 the Winston-Salem Old North State Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) recognized the Jerry Long Family YMCA for honoring the American Flag every day and on special occasions such as Veterans’ Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Pearl Harbor day, and September 11th.

  • Jocelyn (Jay) and Jim Hamby are both cancer survivors. Before getting involved with the LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program, they were struggling to get back on their feet. The couple heard about the LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA and scheduled an appointment to learn more. The Y instructors knew immediately that the program would be a great fit and encouraged them to join. That decision has improved both their physical health and their state of mind.

  • Dr. Don Graham knew exactly what a prediabetes diagnosis could mean for his future. “I was shocked – it was an eye opener,” says Don, age 53, a Pulmonologist at Surry Medical Specialists. Hearing that he was pre-diabetic triggered a major lifestyle change including joining the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program.
    In the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, a trained lifestyle coach introduces topics in a supportive, small-group environment and encourages participants as they explore how healthy eating, physical activity and behavior changes can benefit their health.

  • Y member Jane Bodenhamer enjoys writing short stories and poetry. She was searching for information on how to enter a story and poem in the Senior Games Literacy Category when another category caught her eye. She spotted the Cheerleading category and it immediately brought back her high school cheerleading memories. Jane believes, “Once a cheerleader, always a cheerleader.” And that proved to be true.
